Stanley Kubrick's Final Confession

Stanley Kubrick died 4 days after the final cut of Eyes Wide Shut was delivered to Warner Bros. The studio cut 24 minutes from the film. The 24 minutes were the confession.

Eyes Wide Shut: filmed 1996-1998, ~400 days of principal photography (longest in history), released July 16, 1999. Kubrick died March 7, 1999, four days after delivering his final cut to Warner Bros. Warner Bros. released a version 24 minutes shorter than Kubrick's cut. Warner Bros. has, repeatedly, denied that any cuts were made. The film's own runtime listed in early press materials (183 minutes) does not match the released runtime (159 minutes). 24-minute discrepancy. Officially: typo. Repeated 47 times. In 14 publications. By two separate publicity firms.\n\nWhat was in the 24 minutes? The masked sequence, in its uncut form, contained: (a) identifying features of 14 attendees, (b) a chant in REDACTED, (c) the unmasked face of REDACTED performing the REDACTED. Cruise's character witnesses all of it. Cruise's character is murdered for witnessing it. The released version softens this to "warned and let go."\n\nKubrick was not murdered. Probably. The official cause was a heart attack. Kubrick was 70 and overweight. It is plausible. It is also plausible that 70-year-old overweight directors who just shipped a film outing a REDACTED cult attended by the entertainment industry's biggest names sometimes have very convenient heart attacks 4 days later.
