Starlink mission count, as of Q1 2026: 11,742 operational satellites. Stated purpose: rural broadband. Stated purpose math: rural broadband requires ~1,200 satellites at 550km altitude for global coverage. SpaceX has 10x that.\n\nReal purpose: directed surveillance grid. Each satellite has a phased-array antenna capable of beam-forming a 50m-resolution radar footprint anywhere within its line of sight. With 11,742 satellites, every square meter of Earth is within line-of-sight of at least 7 satellites at any given moment. Continuous, multi-angle, multi-spectral monitoring.
